Relive the music from one of the greatest bands in rock history. About the film:Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury. Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career. Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. Queen cements a legacy that continues to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day. We are pleased to present an ongoing series of classic, family and popular films, shown in the beautifully restored John E. Hillert Auditorium.

Last Illusion filled our stage two Decembers ago with a production that left audiences amazed. An illness kept them off our stage last year, but we are pleased to present these talented musicians and technicians back this year to celebrate the magic of Christmas and the magic of TSO through the magic of Last Illusion. Several years in the making, Last Illusion was formed with one sole purpose: to become the premier musical tribute to The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, whose founder, Paul O'Neill, died last year. O'Neill explained the influences that led to his vision for Trans-Siberian Orchestra in an interview with The Morning Call last year. "[Effects-heavy concert production] was always part of the vision for Trans-Siberian Orchestra, [and] the mixing of classical with rock, which I obviously got from bands like Emerson, Lake and Palmer," he said. "The rock-opera aspect, which I love because it gives a third dimension, which I plagiarized from The Who." Experience the magic for yourself!

The Highlands Community Bank Film SeriesThe Preacher's Wife (Rated PG)Tues., Dec. 10 at 7pmIn the John E. Hillert Auditoriumat the Historic Masonic Theatre**All Films are Free** Amazon reviewer Mishka left this note:"This film will always be one of our favorites. This contemporary re-make of "The Bishop's Wife" shines with wonderful performances by Denzel Washington, Courtney B. Vance, Jennifer Lewis, young Justin Pierre Edmund and the soul-stirring vocals of Whitney Houston. Turning despair into triumph - and containing just the right amount of humor - this film quietly resonates with faith and will put a song in your heart and a smile on your face. It's a genuine pleasure to recommend this family-friendly film." About the film:A cleric begins to doubt himself and is visited by an angel. The heavenly emissary is supposed to help the good reverend over his midlife crisis, but he is distracted by the cleric's lovely young wife. A remake with gospel music of the `The Bishop's Wife'. An Evening with Buddy Holly: featuring Robbie Limon
    Sunday, April 5, 2020
    Show details

    Locality:
    Alleghany
    510 Main Street
    Clifton Forge, VA 2442

Robbie Limon won critical acclaim for his uncanny ability to replicate the vocal characteristics of period singers. Robbie has wowed audiences throughout the east coast and won numerous awards for his work in the syndicated theatrical productions of stage musicals about Buddy Holly. This performance is based on a true story, happening in Greenwich Village, New York, in the late months of 1958. The audience is present during Buddy's band rehearsal as he prepares for the mid-western cavalcade of performers known as The Winter Dance Party of 1959. The stage vibe is intimate as Buddy's dialogue is totally directed at the audience; the tone is conversational and responsive to questions raised during the pre-show warm-up. The show's premise provides context for an evening of Holly favorites as well as those of the Everly Brothers and Little Richard. Are we joking? No, these artists were friends of Buddy and he pays tribute to these influences in the show. This unique format is certain to give an inside look at a life which has been described as “eighteen months of fame and generations of influence”. This performance is part of the SONA Bank Concert Series.

Everyone is still talking about last year's performance by this talented young artist. By popular demand, we are bringing him for a Saturday night concert event sure to amaze. Take a journey back in time to the life and music of "The Man in Black" performed by Cash Unchained. The band has been nationally sought after and has toured all over the U.S., bringing the sights and sounds of the legendary Johnny Cash. Johnny Cash may not have been the greatest singer or musical technician, but his sound was unforgettable. Steady like a train, sharp as a razor, with the perfect blend of country, rock 'n' roll, and folk music, Cash paved the way for artists of all genres for years to come. Without Johnny Cash, we wouldn't have some of the finest music we've all enjoyed over the past 6 decades. Performed by some of the finest musicians in the state of Virginia, James Tamelcoff III captures Cash's trademark baritone voice, while his band delivers the infectious, driving rhythm of the Tennessee Three.
