The Highlands Community Bank Film SeriesBeauty and The Beast (G)In the John E. Hillert Auditorium Beauty and the Beast is funny and preposterous. The original animated version recalls the music, voices and whimsy. Unlike a lot of Disney princes of the time, he's super flawed. He’s a brat with anger issues who is stuck in the form of a wolf-buffalo man.  Gaston is one of Disney’s greatest villains since he thinks he’s the hero. He’s a classic misogynist who thinks monsters are just creatures rather than realizing real monsters are in the hearts of men like him. This Disney film has inspired many adaptations such as musicals, live-action remakes, video games, and even comic books.  BE OUR GUEST! An arrogant young prince (Robby Benson) and his castle's servants fall under the spell of a wicked enchantress, who turns him into the hideous Beast until he learns to love and be loved in return. The spirited, headstrong village girl Belle (Paige O'Hara) enters the Beast's castle after he imprisons her father Maurice (Rex Everhart). With the help of his enchanted servants, including the matronly Mrs. Potts (Angela Lansbury), Belle begins to draw the cold-hearted Beast out of his isolation.

The Highlands Community Bank Film SeriesTrue Grit (G)In the John E. Hillert Auditorium The Masonic was known for showing westerns on its movie screens back in the day. We continue that tradition this fall featuring one of the greatest western stars of all-time. John Wayne’s might seem a little antiquated these days, but his substantial portfolio nevertheless persists as the stuff of legend. Wayne was credited in at least 177 movies over the course of his career. That’s not to mention his oft-overlooked (and frequently uncredited) credits as a producer and director. Suffice to say, the man kept a formidable work ethic from one decade to the next.  After hired hand Tom Chaney (Jeff Corey) murders the father of 14-year-old Mattie Ross (Kim Darby), she seeks vengeance and hires U.S. Marshal "Rooster" Cogburn (John Wayne), a man of "true grit," to track Chaney into Indian territory. As the two begin their pursuit, a Texas Ranger, La Boeuf (Glen Campbell), joins the manhunt in hopes of capturing Chaney for the murder of a Texas senator and collecting a substantial reward. The three clash on their quest of bringing to justice the same man.

The Highlands Community Bank Film SeriesHarry Potter and The Sorcerer's Stone (PG)In the John E. Hillert Auditorium Pottermania was a thing (still is for some). So conjure your Patronus and join us! Did you know:The producers tried to give Daniel Radcliffe green eyes and Hermione buck teeth like in the books, but failed. Sadly, Daniel had a terrible allergic reaction to his green contact lenses and had to stop wearing them, while Emma Watson couldn't speak clearly wearing her false buck teeth. We'll kick off our celebration of the boy wizard with the cinematic adaptation of the first of J.K. Rowling's popular children's novels about Harry Potter, a boy who learns on his eleventh birthday that he is the orphaned son of two powerful wizards and possesses unique magical powers of his own. He is summoned from his life as an unwanted child to become a student at Hogwarts, an English boarding school for wizards. There, he meets several friends who become his closest allies and help him discover the truth about his parents' mysterious deaths.
