Nestled in the Alleghany Highlands of Virginia, Beaverdam Falls is a private nature preserve & exclusive camping destination. We offer guests private enjoyment of not only a stellar waterfall, & numerous cascades, but also the entire 60-acre property. Located in Alleghany County in the old community of Earlehurst, between Covington & Roanoke, Beaverdam Falls are an historic series of waterfalls just off SR-311 (Kanawha Trail). The Falls, both owned privately, consist of the Upper & Lower Falls, as well as numerous cascades, situated at the headwaters of Dunlap Creek & at the terminus of the Sweet Springs. Only the Upper Falls & Sweet Springs portion are open to guests. Additionally, Beaverdam Falls hosts ancient travertine-marl rock formations, & a Beaver Preserve, a federally registered Palustrine Wetland, fed from one of the rarest caves known, an active sulphidic Cesspool Cave. The campground is located less than 1,000 feet from Douthat State Park, and Wilson Creek, a Virginia designated trout stream, runs through the campground that borders the George Washington National Forest. The Buckhorne has hosted campers from 50 states and 12 foreign countries over the past eight years that the Allens have owned the campground. Easy access off I-64 at exit 27 in Clifton Forge leads travelers on a scenic drive on Route 629 (1.6 miles) to the Buckhorne.

Morris Hill is a peaceful, rustic campground for groups of family and friends. The family campground is a family-friendly destination perched on a ridge above Lake Moomaw. The group sites accommodate up the 25 guests with space for up to eight tents. The convenient location near Lake Moomaw and sandy swim beaches, a fishing pier, boat ramp, and hiking and biking trails makes Morris Hill a popular spot.The campground sits on a ridge overlooking Lake Moomaw. It is about a half-mile from the south end of the lake. Lake Moomaw, which flows from the Jackson River, is a cold-water 2,530-acre lake with an inviting swimming beach.Morris Hill is part of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests which spans across Virginia. These forests protect 40 species of trees that are mostly Appalachian hardwood and mixed pine-hardwood forests, 60 species of mammals and 200 species of birds.Family Campground: Most sites will fit any size RV. Campsite amenities include flush toilets, hot showers, a playground and drinking water. Group Sites: There is no water or electricity. Located just minutes off exit 29 on I-64 in the beautiful, eastern end of Alleghany County is the newly formed Waltons Campground. This cozy, family owned and managed area offers seven rustic tent campsites and one additional site that can accommodate a small camper not exceeding 15ft in length. Providing a great balance between primitive and comfortable, Waltons Campground offers county furnished, potable water and a non-flush toilet. Every campsite is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring and lantern hanger for your convenience. Parking for one vehicle per site is included within the interior of the campground with additional parking available to the left of the exit. We do not have a shower facility.
Less than 1000 ft across Nicelytown Road you will find the Sharon Park and public access to the pristine Cowpasture River where many kayak, fish, and play all summer long. The charming small town of Clifton Forge is 4 miles away. Less than 10 miles away, Douthat State Park hosts a lake for swimming and fishing, numerous hiking trails, and many other family friendly activities.
Your reservation is not site specific unless you are bringing a small camper. Campsites 1-7 are tent sites, picked on arrival. Campsite 8 is the only camper site.
You may conveniently pay for your stay using Venmo to WaltonsCampground or pay on arrival by driving one half mile up to 4618 Nicelytown Road. You will find a drop box on the side of the firewood stand. Drop your envelope with the reservation name and amount due. Need firewood for your stay? We have $5 bundles, $10 bin and $20 bin options available for purchase. You may use the cash drop box for this, as well.
