The Jackson River Scenic Trail Marathon is held on one of the most scenic trails in the country.  The Jackson River Scenic Trail follows its namesake river, winding its way between Intervale, just north of Covington, to Smith Bridge Trail Head following an old railroad bed of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (Hot Springs Branch) and passes through small communities, cultivated fields, and small patches of woodland along the way. It's common to see wildlife from the trail (birds, turtles, raccoons, rabbits, ground hogs, and deer).  Our course is on the smooth crushed gravel surface of The Jackson River Scenic Trail. The trail is mostly flat with some light hills. All finishers will receive a medal.  Strollers will be allowed in the 5k event and will start in the back of the group at the start line.  The course is certified by USATF as a Boston Marathon qualifying marathon race. Coinciding with the annual Covington Cork and Pork Festival BBQ in Covington, VA everyone is encouraged to stay following the race and visit this Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned event.  While the barbeque will stand front and center as the centerpiece of this festival, there will be entertainment, a wine tasting event, and children activities.

The Lake Moomaw One Mile Open Water Swim takes place amid the beautiful mountain landscape and breathtaking scenery of the Alleghany Highlands.  Lake Moomaw is a gorgeous setting for this event.  The Alleghany Highland Chamber of Commerce and Tourism co-hosts the event with Dave Holland, United States Masters Swimming Long Distance Chair. Lake Moomaw is among the most popular developed recreation areas in the George Washington National Forest and provides an endless array of activities including boating, fishing, hiking, biking and camping. Whether you come for the day’s event or make this your weekend destination there is something for everyone!

  Join us on Saturday, Septmeber 26th for a Fun 5K Run, 5 Mile Paddle and 10 Mile Bike in Clifton Forge, VA, the beautiful Alleghany Highlands. Race begins at the Sharon Community Center in Clifton Forge at 4017 Nicelytown Road, Clifton Forge. The finish line and celebration will be at the Masonic Amphitheatre on Church Street in downtown CFVA. Bartley's Meat Market will have bbq with all the trimmings, mac n cheese, baked beans, and potatoes for all race participants. Spectators can purchase lunch if they wish. Packet pick-up and registration will be 5:30-7pm September 25th at Jack Mason's Tavern and 7:30 am at The Sharon Community Center on May 18. The overall male and female top finisher will each receive a free 1 night stay for 2 at the Omni Homestead Resort (Sun.-Thurs.)! Medals or trophies will be given for top finishers in multiple age groups as well as teams. This is a great event for all levels of participants. .

This year we have chosen , "Merry and Bright"' for our theme.As in past years, the parade will begin at the intersection of Ridgeway and Roxbury Streets and continue down Ridgeway Street through the historic district to the Clifton Forge Fire Station on D Street. Nice trophies will be given our for best religious float, best private and public vehicles, best marching unit, best dance entry, best clogging entry, most creative entry, best animal entry, best overall float, Starz award, and judges favorite. The Ricky Tims Master Class Quilt Retreat offers a comprehensive quilt curriculum for all quilters. This customized event will teach, encourage, inspire, and will most certainly keep you entertained. Ricky demystifies seemingly complex concepts, and teaches mastery of unique techniques. The sessions cover improvisational patchwork, no-pins precision curved piecing, design guidelines, color theory, dyeing basics, and machine quilting tips that work for both domestic and long arm. You will learn beautiful outline appliqué and innovative piecing techniques—most of which don’t require a quarter-inch seam! Ricky’s goal is to change how you think when it comes to quilting. He will help you to reevaluate your quilting experience and give you the ability to define who you are as a quilter. The seminar will benefit all quilters—beginners or experienced—traditional or art. In addition to the methods and techniques being taught, there will be plenty of fun projects/patterns for you to consider.
